San Luis Recreational Reservoir, CA. This being at the very end of the summer season, it has been several months since there has been a good hard rain. All the grasses and weeds were dead and dusty and bone-dry. Ugh. All of it dead brush at knee-level, no cover. I only saw one tree on the trail (the ‘Lone Pine’?) – just fields of golden, er, dead brush. October 14, 2007. Photo #16 of 23.

San Luis Reservoir – Since I was in the vicinity, I decided to try a quick hike around the nearby San Luis Reservoir. Located just a few miles up from Casa de Fruta near the Pacheco Pass, the water level for the reservoir was tens of feet lower than normal due to drought conditions, leaving the meager hiking trails high and dry in the brush. It was buggy as hell, dry, and altogether unpleasant – so I cut it short and headed back for some fresh fruit and sweets from Casa de Fruta instead. Mmmm, Casa de Fruta.
